The Rocks Experience Magazine

In this issue we take a closer look at design in its countless forms—from the thinking behind The Rocks’ 100 heritage-listed buildings and their adaptation for modern life to the outdoor sculptures and murals that enrich our streets.
Striking a balance between old and new, ‘adaptive reuse’ is now being embraced in many of our heritage buildings.

Through adaptive reuse, significant historical design features are carefully preserved alongside cutting-edge innovation. In landmark buildings like Cleland Bond and 88 George Street, dramatic original architecture now stands guard over modern, sustainable fitouts purpose-designed for contemporary use.

Likewise in The Rocks’ historical pubs, uniquely designed walls, bars and cellars linger from Sydney’s convict past and notorious drinking eras. While around the corner thriving new venues tempt Sydney’s discerning crowd with ingenious, provocative interior design.

On the streets there is design of a different kind with sculpture, light  projections and interpretative installations including murals, storyboards and life size figures.

However you see it, the design of the past, present and future is a constant in our lives. Come and enjoy it in The Rocks this winter.
